so who will be first president of Iraq ?

@ 05:53 PM (17 months, 23 days ago)
Who was our first president?

To all my friends who think establishing a democratic country in Iraq is going to be easy and quick a history lesson is in order.  It should be noted that the U.S. was only divided up by states, not tribes as well.  Now, here's the rest of your history lesson for today.

Who was our first President?

I'm sure that George Washington was your best guess. After all, no one else comes to mind.

But think back to your history books - The United States Declared its independence in 1776, yet Washington did not take Office until April 30, 1789.

So who was running the country during these initial years of this young country?  It was the first eight U. S. Presidents.  In fact, the first President of the United States was one John Hanson.  I can hear you now - John who?  John Hanson, the first President of the United States .  Don't go checking the encyclopedia for this guy's name - he is one of those great men that are lost to history.  If you're extremely lucky, you may actually find a brief mention of his name.

The new country was actually formed on March 1, 1781 with the adoption of The Articles of Confederation.  This document was actually proposed on June 11, 1776, but not agreed upon by Congress until November 15, 1777.

Maryland refused to sign this document until Virginia and New York ceded their western lands ( Maryland was afraid that these states would gain too much power in the new government from such large amounts of land).

Once the signing took place in 1781, a President was needed to run the country.  John Hanson was chosen unanimously by Congress (which included George Washington).  In fact, all the other potential candidates refused to run against him, as he was a major player in the revolution and an extremely influential member of Congress.

As the first President, Hanson had quite the shoes to fill.  No one had ever been President and the role was poorly defined.  His actions in office would set precedent for all future Presidents.  He took office just as the Revolutionary War ended.  Almost immediately, the troops demanded to be paid.  As would be expected after any long war, there were no funds to meet the salaries.  As a result, the soldiers threatened to overthrow the new government and put Washington on the throne as a monarch.

All the members of Congress ran for their lives, leaving Hanson as the only guy left running the government.  He somehow managed to calm the troops down and hold the country together.  If he had failed, the government would have fallen almost immediately and everyone would have been bowing to King Washington.

Hanson, as President, ordered all foreign troops off American soil, as well as the removal of all foreign flags.  This was quite the feat, considering the fact that so many European countries had a stake in the United States since the days following Columbus .

Hanson established the Great Seal of the United States , which all Presidents have since been required to use on all official documents.

President Hanson also established the first Treasury Department, the first Secretary of War, and the first Foreign Affairs Department.

Lastly, he declared that the fourth Thursday of every November was to be Thanksgiving Day, which is still true today.

The Articles of Confederation only allowed a President to serve a one year term during any three year period, so Hanson actually accomplished quite a bit in such little time.

Seven other presidents were elected after him:

1. Elias Boudinot (1782-83),

2. Thomas Mifflin (1783-84),

3. Richard Henry Lee (1784-85),

4. John Hancock (1785-86),

5. Nathan Gorman (1786-87),

6. Arthur St. Clair (1787-88), and

7. Cyrus Griffin (1788-89),

....all prior to Washington taking office.

So what happened?  Why don't we hear about the first eight presidents?

It's quite simple - The Articles of Confederation didn't work well.  The individual states had too much power and nothing could be agreed upon.  A new doctrine needed to be written - something we know as the Constitution.  And that leads us to the end of our story.

George Washington was definitely not the first President of the United States .  He was the first President of the United States under the Constitution we follow today.

And the first eight Presidents are forgotten in history.

YOU HAVE TO BE A LOVER OF HISTORY TO APPRECIATE THIS!!

It took EIGHT years for us to establish a successful government.  You might just remember this when you hear that so little progress has been made establishing a Government in Iraq .

Technobabble: Wireless beyond Wi-FiTechnobabble

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth have been around for a while now, and most of us who are even the slightest bit technology-oriented have been using both for years. You probably use a Wi-Fi network to access the web wirelessly and Bluetooth to transfer pictures from your phone to your computer or to talk with a headset. Pretty simple.

Joe started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for

electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG). He put on a dress shirt {MADE IN SRI
LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE) and tennis shoes (MADE IN

radio (MADE IN INDIA) he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY), filled it
with GAS from Saudi Arabia, and continued his search for a good paying
AMERICAN JOB. At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day
checking his Computer (Made in Malaysia with tech support in India) Joe
decided to relax for a while. He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL)
poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE!!) and turned on his TV

Not Content With Crushing Second Amendment, Bloomberg Disregards The First

A story in today’s New York Sun, (http://www2.nysun.com/new-york/gag-on-2nd-amendment-is-citys-aim-in-guns-suit/) demonstrates that gun-hating Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s disdain for the Constitution isn’t just limited to his abhorrence of the Second Amendment.

Challenge the human spirit !

@ 11:07 AM (18 months, 8 days ago)
Man thrives, oddly enough, only in the presence of a challenging environment

The Japanese have always loved fresh fish. But the waters close to Japan have not held many fish for decades. So to feed the Japanese population, fishing boats got bigger and went farther than ever. The farther the fishermen went, the longer it took to bring in the fish.

If the return trip took more than a few days, the fish were not fresh. The Japanese did not like the taste.

To solve this problem, fishing companies installed freezers on their boats. They would catch the fish and freeze them at sea. Freezers allowed the boats to go farther and stay longer.

However, the Japanese could taste the difference between fresh and frozen and they did not like frozen fish. The frozen fish brought a lower price. So fishing companies installed fish tanks. They would catch the fish and stuff them in the tanks, fin to fin. After a little thrashing around, the fish stopped moving. They were tired and dull, but alive.

WHERE DO YOU BUY GAS ?

@ 10:45 AM (18 months, 8 days ago)
FOOD FOR THOUGHT.

Gas rationing in the 70's worked even though we grumbled about it.  It might even have been good for us!

Are you aware that the Saudis are boycotting American products?

Shouldn't we return the favor?  Can't we take control of our own destiny and let these giant oil importers know who REALLY g enerates their profits, their livings?  How about leaving American Dollars in America and reduce the import/export deficit?

An appealing remedy might be to boycott their GAS.  Every time you fill up your car you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of Saudi Arabia.  Just purchase gas from companies that don't import their oil from the Saudis.

A word about todays hearings

@ 07:48 AM (18 months, 9 days ago)
about Veterans affairs. as a veteran I would like to comment on what I have heard in the news. this mornings comments addressing veterans concerns including the high rate of suicides. Comes as no surprise to me ! Having served and returned home I am appaulled at the absence of truth to be found in the understanding of the veterans needs. When I returned home I found that the politicians had been busy giving away the family store. fiquratively speaking. But the store as a country , family owned and operated has been sold out by the professional politicians. I am steaming mad that my future, The one I expected to find upon my return to civilian life. Was not to be had. That instead it had been given away to foriegners who would never have to fight for thier own democracy and freedom. Freedom that a person like this would never appreciate ! Just as a spoiled brat child who is given a new car would never have the desire to protect it, clean it when it is dirty and spend cash on maitenance ! Stupid Liberal politicians will never get beyond thier AAAAAHHHHHHHH poor child attitude to save the rest of the world and pretend that all is well in the home front ! well it isnt a bed of roses and worst than predictable consequences will prevail as returning service Members find that there are no jobs to be had so you will have to invent one, No one can afford the high price of fuel and the problem stems from a lack of attention by our professional multimillion dollar politicians who at the end of thier time in office will rape the system with thier ENTITLEMENTS ! These politicians will never learn they have enough cash socked away that they dont have to care about what they have done because nobody hold them accountable ! start sueing politicians after they have left office so as to bankrupt thier stash which they actually stole from American taxpayers. And lets get America back from these assholes !
